Is it true that babies get buck teeth by sucking on a pacifier?

If it%26#039;s true...how is that possible?

Is it true that babies get buck teeth by sucking on a pacifier?
yes because if the baby HAS teeth, sucking on the pacifier makes the teeth grow outwards. It%26#039;s best that u take the pacifier away, unless u want ur child(ren) having buck teeth. Sucking on a thumb does that ALSO.
Reply:Yes, its true. Try to ween baby off as soon as possible. Do not let them have a pacifier once they start getting teeth.
Reply:It%26#039;s not from the pacifier, it%26#039;s from sucking the thumb.

APA recommended them.
Reply:you do not want to keep your baby on a paci for too long, but the minute their first teeth come in you do not have to take it aywa!
Reply:It is true, and bottles if they have them after their teeth start to come in and by that time, good luck trying to get your kid to give it up! Talk to your dentist or visit the American Dental Association site -- you can get tons of info on how to keep those teeth healthy! I never used pacifiers with either of my children. I think they are a waste of time and cause too many problems trying to break them. Good luck!
Reply:Yes.
Reply:Both of my girls have beautifull teeth...I took their binki%26#039;s away at about 2-1/2 to 3 years of age....neither one of them needs braces, their perfect!!!
Reply:no it%26#039;s not true, it%26#039;s just a very commonly believed myth. excessive sucking (like all day every day) may temporarily cause the teeth to shift outward, but it is not permanent, when the pacifier stops, the teeth go back to normal if they ever moved at all, and it has absolutely NO effect on adult teeth. I had my pacifier until I was four (yes I said four, get over it) and I never got buck teeth.
Reply:My oldest son used a pacifier all the time when he was a baby. He is now 10 and has perfect teeth, so I guess its not true for all of them
Reply:well i think it depends. those pacifiers that are yellowish rubbery and oldfashioned are more likely to cause teeth problems. but the one my daughter used, was siliconed clear and was molded a certain way, i honestly think that it was a better pacifier for her teeth and she only used it for about a year or less. i think nuby makes the brand. i dont remember what they were called.
Reply:Not sure about a pacifier, but I know that my mom sucked her thumb until she was 10 years old and her front teeth are very crooked because of it. She hates the way they look. I imagine sucking a pacifier wouldn%26#039;t be much different. Check with your pediatrician.
Reply:They are far more likely to have bucked teeth if you have buck teeth than due to any contact with a pacifier.....and thumbs are a killer.
Reply:That%26#039;s not true. I used a pacifier as a baby and my teeth are straight :)
